YEAR 1-8 CHILDREN – Mixed Media – Jeff Thomson
Jeff Thomson, a New Zealand artist, is known worldwide as the “Corrugated Iron Man of Australasia” because he loves to create art works using corrugated iron. Over the years he has done all kinds of art works with this unusual material – mailboxes, animals, gumboots, weaving, knitting ….. Perhaps you have seen a car that he covered with corrugated iron in Te Papa? In his latest art works he uses corrugated iron and creates sheaves of flowers. Here are some examples of Jeff Thomson’s art works:
In the morning sessions the children will work with corrugated cardboard to create their own sheaf of flowers. When completed their sculpture will be able to be hung on the wall.
AFTERNOONS: 12.30PM – 3.30PM
YEAR 1-8 CHILDREN – Fabric Painting – Laurel Burch
In this class the children will be using fabric paint to paint onto calico bags. They will work in the style of Laurel Burch, a symbolic painter and designer, who loved to create art works of cats. Here are a few of her art works:
FULL DAYS: 9.00AM – 3.30PM
YEAR 7-8 CHILDREN ONLY (Must have already made a Raggy Quilt) – Class Size 4 children
This is an advanced quilting class for children that have already made a raggy quilt.
Mrs McAdams, a teacher and highly experienced quilter, is the teacher for this class.
In these 5 days the children will create their own single bed quilt using a sewing machine – children DO NOT need their own sewing machine. Machines will be supplied by the Teacher. The finished quilt will be approximately 147cm X 215cm. The children will be able to choose their own colour way and design layout.
They will learn how to:
- Accurately cut fabric using a variety of different tools
- Sewing Machine safety
- Quilting and binding
- Design, layout & construct their own unique quilt

For those children attending for the whole day there will be a supervised lunch break from 12- 12.30pm.
Venue: Artroom at Saint Kentigern Girls’ School, 514 Remuera Rd, Remuera.
Fees: $220 for 5 mornings or 5 afternoons or $420 for 5 full days.
Additional cost of $100 for materials for the quilting class.
