MORNINGS: Mixed Media – Jeff Thomson
Jeff Thomson, a New Zealand artist, is known worldwide as the “Corrugated Iron Man of Australasia” because he loves to create art works using corrugated iron. Over the years he has done all kinds of art works with this unusual material – mailboxes, animals, gumboots, weaving, knitting ….. Perhaps you have seen a car that he covered with corrugated iron in Te Papa? In his latest art works he uses corrugated iron and creates sheaves of flowers.
In this programme the children worked with corrugated cardboard to create their own sheaf of flowers. Here are the results:
AFTERNOONS: Fabric Painting – Laurel Burch
In this class the children used fabric paint to paint onto calico bags. They worked in the style of Laurel Burch, a symbolic painter and designer, who loved to create art works of cats. Most of the children hand stitched the whiskers onto their cat faces. Here are their finished bags:
FULL DAYS: Half Square Triangle Quilts
This was an advanced quilting class for Year 7 and 8 children that had already made a raggy quilt. Over the 5 days the 4 children designed and created their own single bed quilt using their chosen colour way.
