MORNINGS: Painting – “My Favourite Place in the World.”
Last year the girls at Saint Kentigern Girls’ School painted some very cool jigsaw pieces, that I had had cut out of wood, as part of their school birthday celebrations. They looked amazing and the children really wanted to take them home but they couldn’t as they were part of a mural.
In the morning sessions, on the leftover jigsaw puzzle pieces, the children painted their favourite place in the world to be. Can you guess where the children have chosen?
YEAR 7-8 CHILDREN ONLY – Raggy Quilts
This is a very popular class with the Year 7 and 8 children, in which they get to make their very own raggy quilts. Mrs McAdams, a teacher and highly experienced quilter, is the teacher for this class.
The children do not need any sewing experience and they do not need a sewing machine of their own as these are provided. The class size is limited to just 4 children.
The finished quilt is approximately 127cm X 162cm.
The children learnt:
- To accurately cut fabric using a variety of tools
- Sewing Machine safety
- To sew accurately
- To design, layout & construct their own quilt
Here are the quilts that the girls created:
AFTERNOONS: Owl Hot Water Bottle Covers
Last year the children saw the designs I created for a children’s quilt based around owls. In this class the children designed their own owl character which they then made as a hot water bottle cover. The children dyed woollen blanket fabric and then they added other fabrics, felt, buttons, ribbon etc to create their owl. There did some machine sewing and some hand sewing.
The finished hot water bottle covers are amazing and each one has a strong personality. See for yourself:
