As we all know this year has been fraught with challenges. So many events have had to be cancelled but we have persisted rescheduling our exhibition over and over again until finally on our third attempt we have been able to proceed. This year our exhibition is 25% bigger than ever before. We have 84 artworks being exhibited by 35 artists.
The Visual Arts Academy is now in its sixth year of operation and there are some children who have now attended more than 30 different courses that I have run. The increase in these children’s skill levels, their confidence with different medium, their ability to talk about art, and to design and create art works is becoming very apparent in their regular school art lessons. They are passionate about art and it shows!
Since our last exhibition my sister, Mrs Linda McAdams, has joined me during the Holiday Programmes and she has been teaching the Year 7 and 8 girls to quilt. What she has achieved with these girls is amazing! Plus we have done some sewing projects like the hot water bottle covers and cushions with the younger students which everyone has loved making.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Saint Kentigern and especially Miss Small for allowing us to use the amazing facilities and for their ongoing support and encouragement for the Visual Arts Academy.
I would also like to thank the parents for all the positive feedback they have given me. I have loved working with your children and hearing about the impact I have made on their lives and how impressed you are by their achievements. It has meant a lot to me.
In the People’s Choice 183 people managed to make up their minds about which was their favourite art work and vote for it. There were far too many compliments for me to even count.
Thank you everyone for your support.
Here are the results:
In 1st place with 21 votes, which was 11% of the total votes, we have the stunning Christmas Centrepiece sewn by Charlotte Horne.
In 2nd place with 9 votes for her Sea Dragon painting we have Grace Bluck.
In 3rd place with 8 votes for Peacock collage we have Lucia Zhang.
Well done everyone who exhibited. It was great to see it all on show.
